Quick answer

The fastest way from Kraków Airport (KRK) to the city centre is the train: about 18 minutes to Kraków Główny, the main station next to the Old Town, roughly every 30 minutes. The cheapest is the city bus: line 300 runs towards the city every 15 minutes or so during the day, and night bus 902 goes to the main station. A 60-minute city ticket costs 8 zł. Taxis and ride-hailing apps such as Bolt and Uber also work from the airport.

Kraków John Paul II International Airport is in Balice, about 11 km west of the city centre. Getting into town is easy once you know which option fits your arrival time, budget and luggage. This guide compares the train, buses and taxis, and explains which ticket to buy.

By train: the fastest way

The airport has its own railway station, Kraków Lotnisko, connected to the terminal by a covered walkway. Trains on the SKA1 line run to Kraków Główny, the main station beside the Galeria Krakowska shopping centre and a short walk from the Main Market Square. The ride takes about 18 minutes, with stops at Kraków Bronowice and Kraków Łobzów on the way.

  • Frequency: about every 30 minutes for most of the day, roughly from 4:00 until 1:00; the earliest and latest trains are about an hour apart.
  • Tickets: from the machine at the airport station, the ticket office, the Koleo app or the conductor on board. A one-way ticket cost 20 zł in August 2025; check the current price in Koleo.
  • Same line further on: the SKA1 continues beyond Kraków Główny to Wieliczka, so you can ride straight from the airport to the Wieliczka Salt Mine.

For long-distance trains onwards from Kraków Główny, see our guide to trains in Poland.

By bus: the cheapest way

City buses leave from the stop outside the terminal. They are run by Kraków’s public transport, so a normal city ticket is all you need.

  • Line 300 is the most useful daytime bus. It runs towards the centre via the National Museum (Muzeum Narodowe) and Jubilat, close to the Wawel end of the Old Town, and ends at Osiedle Podwawelskie. In a test ride the trip to Jubilat took about 20 minutes. Buses run about every 15 minutes, less often early and late.
  • Line 209 goes to Salwator, west of the centre, but runs rarely.
  • Night line 902 goes to the main station area when trains have stopped.

Which bus ticket to buy

Since 2 March 2026 Kraków’s time tickets are valid in all fare zones, including the airport. For the ride into town buy a 60-minute ticket (8 zł); the 30-minute ticket (6 zł) may run out before you arrive if traffic is heavy. If you plan to travel around the city on the same day, a 24-hour ticket valid in all zones (25 zł) is better value.

  • Buy at the ticket machine at the stop (cash or card), on board in most vehicles (card) or in an app such as Jakdojade or moBiLET.
  • Validate a paper ticket in the machine as soon as you board. Ticket inspections are common.

By taxi or ride-hailing app

You can take a taxi at the airport or order one through Bolt or Uber. A taxi makes sense for groups, families with a lot of luggage or arrivals after midnight. A ride-hailing app shows the fare before you confirm, which avoids surprises.

Which option should you choose?

  • Staying near the Old Town or Kazimierz: train to Kraków Główny, then walk, tram or a short taxi ride.
  • Staying west or south-west of the centre: bus 300 can drop you closer than the train.
  • Arriving after the last train: night bus 902, or a taxi.
  • Going straight to Zakopane, Katowice or elsewhere: take the train to Kraków Główny; long-distance trains leave from the same station and buses from the MDA bus station next door. See Kraków to Zakopane.
